Welcome to Brackenfield School. We are an area special school for the South of Derbyshire who offer a full range of opportunities for children and students with special needs aged 3 to 16 (3-19 from September 2025). We meet the needs of pupils with complex, severe and profound learning needs, including children with complex medical and physical needs.

Choosing a school for your child is very important and cannot be undertaken by only looking at our website and prospectus. Prospective parents/carers and pupils are welcome to visit at any time. Please ring the school office to make an appointment to discuss your child’s needs and to see our excellent provision.

At Brackenfield we believe that education for our pupils includes not only the National Curriculum but just as importantly, life skills and social skills. We concentrate on providing for individual needs so that all of our pupils can be encouraged to achieve their best within a happy, caring and supportive community. Our vision is for our young people leave us prepared for the next stage of their education and for adulthood- we do this through a curriculum based on The Preparation for Adulthood Framework, which focuses on life and functional skills. The aim of our curriculum is to ensure that our pupils have choice, voice, independence, functionality and joy in living throughout their time in school and into adulthood.

We believe that all children have the right to a broad and balanced, education and access to a wide range of enriching experiences. Our staff are dedicated to ensuring that our young people thrive and gain independence in a caring and supportive environment.

I look forward to welcoming you to our school.
