At Brackenfield, SMSC and British Values are embedded in our school values, ethos, characters and throughout our curriculum.  How it is delivered will look different depending on the pathway and individual needs of our pupils, based on coverage expectations set out for each pathway.

Spiritual development includes

You might see

Pupils experiencing joy and fascination at motivating and stimulating activities including Attention Autism or Sensory Workout sessions.

Pupils getting the chance to explore or discover their own passions, interests or experiences.

Immersive themes or activities linked to different religious celebrations or pupils going to visit places of worship in our communities.

Moral development includes

  • Being able to share our attitudes, views and values without judgment
  • Seeing other people’s point of view
  • Developing an understanding of social conventions
  • Recognising that our beliefs can change

Pupils experiencing being part of a group of diverse individuals.

Pupils learning to care for their classmates, their environment and nature.

Pupils gaining experience of social conventions within their class, like greeting our friends, or in the community, learning how to behave and respect others they might meet.

Pupils having the chance to make their own choices and experience simple consequences in a supported way.

Social development includes

  • Understanding of how different people we know relate to us
  • Being able to make a personal contribution to the well-being of the group
  • The ability to exercise responsibility and initiative

Pupils being supported to develop through different levels of play that include awareness of others.

Pupils learning to help out in the running of their class.

Pupils experiencing different roles within the community including some that they may themselves take on as a career.

Cultural development includes

  • Understanding of beliefs, customs, values, knowledge and skills which form the basis for identity and cohesion in society
  • Exposing pupils to artistic and musical experiences to maximize their cultural capital and find new talents and interests

Pupils experiencing opportunities across the curriculum to explore resources and stimuli that reflect cultural diversity.

Pupils experiencing a range of stories and books in ways appropriate to them; hearing a range of music;  making their own art and participating in hobbies or sporting experiences.

Pupils exploring through immersive themes or across the curriculum ,natural and cultural aspects of the different seasons and how this might impact them.

Pupils learning about beliefs and places that are different from those they are used to.

At Brackenfield we look after each other and keep each other safe in line with British Values.

Pupils making and communicating choices in ways appropriate to them.

Pupils learning about choices that might be safe or dangerous.

Pupils experiencing boundaries appropriate to their level of understanding.

Pupils learning about people who help us in the community including the police.  Some pupils learning about things that are illegal in our country.

Pupils experiencing that other people can make choices too, even we don’t like them.

Pupils learning to take turns and accept a group decision even if it is hard.  Some pupils exploring how voting works in Britain.

Pupils experiencing being part of a group who are all different and all special.

Pupils exploring resources and stimuli which reflect diversity across the protected characteristics.

Pupils experiencing diversity in the wider community.   Learning through modelling to respect and value difference.
