Sycamore

Hello from the Sycamore class team!

We are Sycamore and this MER, we are focusing on different immersive themes. We will be exploring different weekly immersive themes. For example, jelly, nature, balls. We will adapt adult led activities like call and response, attention autism and sensology so that they fit around these themes. This will help the children to discover their likes and dislikes. We will be doing lots of transition around school to take part in sensory workouts and exploring our themes in different environments. We will be exploring the outside areas as much as possible! Please provide a change of clothes for every eventuality including wellies so that the children can enjoy the different sensory experiences they get from outside.

Communication:

Put different items out at home (we suggest 3). Ask your child to choose which item they would like by pointing. This will get them all practicing ready to use their pointing boards at school. Please ask if you would like one for home!

Friends, relationships and community

Encourage your child to share an activity with someone else at home. Encourage them to do activities together. Model good sharing and see if your child can follow.

Independent living

Encourage your child to help prepare their own snack for example crackers and butter. Can they find the butter in the fridge and try to use the knife to spread the butter on the cracker.

Good health

Encourage your child to wash their hands at appropriate times, after going to the toilet, before eating or helping in the kitchen. Model good handwashing techniques and ensure they are following each step.

Employment

Encourage your child to complete simple everyday tasks. For example, taking their shoes off or helping to pull up their trousers after the toilet.

If you have any good news stories please email them to parents@brackenfield.derbyshire.sch.uk and we will be in touch to include you in our weekly community news bulletin.
