Elm

Hello from the Elm class team!

We are Elm class and this MER we are working on our social skills, being part of a group, working together and following routines. We will also, as always, be experiencing lots of activities and themes so we can get to know our likes and dislikes and so we can development our engagement and attention skills. Each week we will be immersed in a new theme so there’s always something new and exciting for us enjoy.

You can help extend the learning at home too… here are some things for you to do.

Communication:

Play with your child. Repeat their phrases and see what they do!

Use symbols to help your child communicate with you, if you need us to print you some symbols just ask, we are always happy to help.

Friends, relationships and community

Visit the local community. Go to the park, or the shops.

If possible, get together with family and friends to foster those positive relationships.

Independent living

Encourage your child to help prepare their own snack for example crackers and butter. Can they find the butter in the fridge, locate the knife, open the lid of the butter, take an appropriate amount of butter from the tub, spread to all the corners?

Good health

Encourage your child to wash their hands at appropriate times, after going to the toilet, before eating or helping in the kitchen. Model good handwashing techniques and ensure they are following each step.

If you have any good news stories please email them to parents@brackenfield.derbyshire.sch.uk and we will be in touch to include you in our weekly community news bulletin.
