Hello from the Oak class team!

Overview: We are Oak Class and this MER we are focussing on socialising with our peers, regulating within different environments, expanding our likes and dislikes and making choices. Each week we will be visiting the local shop and park, attending a swimming lesson at West Park and visiting the local soft play centre. We also plan on visiting Lanes and Hooks farm, local cafes and would like to plan a day trip later in the MER to somewhere like Twin Lakes.

We will also being doing PE on a Monday and Thursday (one indoors, one outdoors), so please send in named PE kits suitable for both. Alongside this we will have weekly Attention Autism, call and response, narrative, ICT, cooking, structured play, music and drama.

Family learning: please see below for ways in which you can extend what your child is doing in school at home.

Communication

Encourage your child to recall relevant information from school (based on what you read in their daily diaries). Ask questions and support them with ways to communicate what they liked and disliked about their day

Good Health

Talk about why it’s important to wash our hands before we touch or eat food. Talk about how we are feeling at different times, when happy, excited, sad etc, so they can start to recognise their own behaviours when feeling this way.

Friends, relationships, and Community

Look at pictures from past events, can your child name who is in the pictures and recall these events, you can also ask them how they felt in the pictures or say how you were feeling at the time.

Independent living

Can your child help make a meal, could you have a go at making something you always have or even try making something new. We can let you know what we are making in school for you to have a go at making this at home.

Employment

Encourage your child to try something new, visit a new park or try a new activity.

Please remember to let us know what you get up to at home we love to hear about fantastic moments and see any pictures. You can add photos, videos and messages on Boop.

If you have any good news stories please email them to parents@brackenfield.derbyshire.sch.uk and we will be in touch to include you in our weekly community news bulletin.
